If you haven’t heard of coconut oil, you must be living under a rock! In the last couple of years it’s massively increased in popularity — and for a good reason, as there are tons of benefits to using this miracle oil. Whether you’re looking for a healthier alternative to traditional cooking oils, or want to give your skin a deep moisturizing treatment, coconut oil is for you.

However, above all else, coconut oil for hair is terrific!

If you don’t know how to make the most of this product you’re in the right place, because we’re breaking it all down for you here in this article.

1. Give Your Hair A Deep Condition

Without delving too deep into the science of coconut oil, it’s able to penetrate our hair quicker and more intensely than other hair conditioners. It’s primarily made of medium-chain fatty acids, and as such, it’s a wonderful hair conditioner.

All you have to do is run the oil through your hair and leave it in for as long as possible. Unsurprisingly, the longer you leave the oil in your hair, the more effective the treatment. So try and give yourself at least an hour after putting the oil in.

Once you’re done, wash and condition your hair as you would typically, brush it through, and allow it to dry naturally (drying with a hairdryer only makes the hair more brittle, and will undo some of the good of the coconut oil treatment).

This is a godsend for those with unusually dry or textured hair. Indulging in a deep conditioning treatment is by far the best thing for keeping your hair healthy. Plus it’ll soothe and nourish the scalp for a win-win situation! Your hair will undoubtedly feel stronger and boast a gorgeous shine afterward — what’s not to love about that?

2. Use As A Detangler

This is especially useful for longer hair. Combing through knots can be a painful business! If you can relate to this issue, use a tiny bit of coconut oil and work it into the ends of your hair. If you use the 100% organic stuff, you shouldn’t feel any residue.

Just do the following:

  • Squirt a small blob of coconut oil into a bowl. Then place another pan inside so it’s sitting on top of the oil. Fill this with hot water; this is the best way to melt the substance.
  • Once the product is ready, massage the oil into the ends of your hair.
  • Then, brush with far greater ease and style as usual

How easy is that?

3. Stimulate Hair Growth

If you want longer, thicker hair, then coconut oil could be the organic solution you’ve been searching for. It’s packed with vitamins and essential fatty acids that help to nurture the scalp and stimulate hair growth.

Before bed, wash and condition your hair as you would usually and comb it through. Once you’re done, melt the coconut oil just as we’ve previously described.

Then massage the oil directly into your scalp. Make sure you cover the entirety of your head. Now wrap your hair with a clean, dry towel and leave the coconut oil on overnight.

4. Beat Sun-Damaged Hair

As lovely as the sun is, it wreaks havoc on the hair. This is especially true if you frequently bleach your locks, use a lot of product, or style with heated appliances! If that sounds like you, you’ll be pleased to hear coconut oil doubles as a natural sunscreen for your beautiful mane.

All you have to do is apply coconut oil to your hair first thing in the morning, or before you head out into the sun. Just melt the oil as usual and the work it into your hairbrush. Then gently comb your hair and style as usual. By heeding this advice, your hair is far less likely to suffer from sun damage!

Top Tip: Pack a travel size bottle of coconut oil with you if you’re going on a beach holiday. Trust us; you’ll be thankful you did!
