The Vacation Times

We all love going on vacation, from far-off destinations to local getaways. We rest, relax, and have fun while enjoying the time away from work. Unfortunately, a lot of times that enjoyment comes with a price: our health. Why do we always get sick after a fun vacation? And how do we avoid getting sick in the first place? Find out how to stay healthy.

Take Care Of Yourself On The Plane

If you’re traveling by airplane, you’ll be breathing in low-humidity air for an extended period of time, causing you to dry out your nasal passages. This dryness can affect your nose and throat and eventually make it tougher for your body to protect itself against germs and bacteria. You’ll be more susceptible to coming down with an illness.

Before you take off, go to your local pharmacy for some over-the-counter nasal spray and eye drops. They’ll help you fight off the low-humidity on the plane.

Go Easy On The Alcohol

Enjoying some adult beverages is always a fun thing to do on vacation, especially when you’re lazing around on the beach. It’s your time away from your everyday stress, why not let loose a little? Beware, though, those extra drinks can weaken your immune system, giving bacteria an easy target

Stay hydrated while you’re drinking the harder stuff. Drink a glass of water between every alcoholic drink you consume and try to take a day off between your hard-drinking days. It’ll give your body time to recuperate.

Get Some Rest

Most of us are familiar with the expression, “I need a vacation from my vacation.” All of that resting and relaxing you did was actually tiring when you think about it. From the stress of boarding a flight to the unexpected running around you’ll do in an unfamiliar environment, your body will feel the effects of travel. And if you’re in a different time zone, the time adjustment will take a toll on you, too.

Do some planning before your trip to make sure things go smoothly. Every minute saved on vacation is one less minute of stress on your physical and mental health. Those minutes add up and you can use them to enjoy some actual rest and relaxation.
