Harmful self-care practices you need to stop doing right now
You have probably heard the term “self-care” before. The concept relates to taking time to care for yourself, whether it’s by meditating, exercising, resting, or more. While these are great methods, there are five “self-care” methods health experts want you to stop doing right now. They’re harming you more than helping you.
Stop Participating In “Retail Therapy”
While it’s great to wear clothes that make you happy and shopping can be relaxing, you shouldn’t ignore your budget while you participate in “retail therapy.” There’s a difference between buying clothes you love and buying expensive products just to buy them. Going into debt won’t help you feel better!
Don’t Snack On Junk Food
An occasional sweet treat won’t ruin your diet, but overeating junk food isn’t going to long-term help you. It will only provide temporary relief. In addition, obsessively eating junk food can cause severe health problems, including obesity, poor health, and addiction, according to many doctors. Control yourself and only eat sweets on special occasions. You’ll thank yourself later!
Don’t Overwork Yourself
You should exercise on a regular schedule, but you shouldn’t overdo it. Don’t push yourself too hard. Self-care is not jumping from one fad diet to the next. Give your body time to adjust to your health and dietary changes. Exercise because you want to feel healthy, not because you worry about how others think of you.
Don’t Always Say No
Many claim one of the best ways to take care of yourself is to learn to say no to people. It’s okay to take time for yourself. While this is true, that doesn’t mean you should always say no. You still need to be pleasant and cooperative with others. If someone needs your help occasionally, offer a helping hand. It’s okay to step back on your responsibilities, but don’t completely walk away.
Keep Some Clutter
Health experts recommend throwing away your excessive clutter. Clear your desk to make some new space. While this is great, don’t throw away everything you own. Keep some clutter— especially the items that mean the most to you. You might miss those items in a few years. Only throw away items that don’t make you happy. You don’t need them.
