Whether you’re getting nausea from motion sickness, because of pregnancy, a stomach infection, or any other reason, it’s not a fun experience. Ginger is here for you though. This herb has been used to treat stomach issues since ancient times, and for good reason. Try out these five uses of ginger to help you out when nausea sets in, or even beforehand to prevent it.
Tea For The Tummy
The most effective ginger tea for nausea is a homemade one using fresh ginger. It’s easy to make. All you have to do is drop a few thin slices of washed ginger into boiling water. Let it continue to gently boil for about 10 minutes. The tea will have a strong, spicy flavor that you can tone down with a little lemon and honey if you like.
Strong But Effective
If you don’t have time to make ginger tea, you can also chew on it in its simple raw form. Wash the ginger well, peel it, and cut it into thick slices. When you’re feeling nauseous, all you have to is pop a piece of fresh ginger into your mouth and start chewing. It will have a striking, pungent flavor, but it will do the trick.
Take Your Pill
There are lots of ginger root supplements available in pill form at most pharmacies. Ginger in pill form is a great option if you don’t like the taste of ginger or you just don’t happen to have any around when nausea strikes. Ginger root pills are also easier to bring on the go than fresh ginger.
Ginger Ale Is No Wives’ Tale
Many people suggest drinking ginger ale (also called ginger beer) for nausea, though they may not realize it’s the ginger that soothes the stomach discomfort. Be careful with this one, however, as many popular brands of ginger ale do not have actual ginger in them. Only ginger ale with real ginger will work.
Chew Your Nausea Away
You don’t actually need that much ginger to get rid of nausea. Studies have found that even a quarter of a teaspoon of ginger can significantly reduce symptoms of nausea. A stick of ginger gum contains more ginger than that, plus chewing ginger gum is fast-acting. If you’re prone to nausea, it might be good to keep some ginger gum around at all times.
