Marie Kondo

Marie Kondo inspired thousands of people to reorganize their homes with her Netflix special, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. In her 2012 novel, Spark Joy, the consultant instructed individuals to throw away personal belongings if they don’t “spark joy.” If something doesn’t make you feel happy, throw it away. You don’t need it cluttering your space and, well, your life.

But reorganizing a house is a difficult task. How do you add more storage to your kitchen? How do you organize your bathroom? Luckily, there are many ways, including small DIY projects under $25, to add more storage to your already existing living spaces.

Reorganize your pantry

If you’re lucky enough to have a pantry in your kitchen, you know the already existing storage cabinets allow for you to keep as many products as you want. But sometimes, your pantry still needs a little TLC (tender, loving care). If you need some more space, use your doors.

Put the pantry doors to good use. You could hang a shoe organizer over the back of the door. From there, you can easily store containers, condiment bottles, and additional food products. To add more extra space in your pantry, you can also put lazy Susans in the corners. You won’t let food get lost in those dark corners.

Organize your undergarments

If you’re like the rest of us, you usually toss your clean underwear in a random drawer in your closet. Your underwear isn’t tidy and organized. It looks like a mess. Luckily, there’s an inexpensive way to organize your undergarments.

This simple closet underwear organizer fits easily in a closet drawer and it has dividers for each individual pair of underwear. All you have to do is roll the underwear up and place it into its designated divider. This is perfect for organizing lingerie, socks, and undergarments as soon as you have finished the laundry.

Floating shelves

Chip and Joanna Gaines helped popularize floating shelves on their hit HGTV show, Fixer Upper. Apart from shiplap, everyone wanted Joanna Gaines’s signature floating shelves. You don’t need tall shelves with dividers that take up space. Instead, floating shelves are the perfect solution to the problem you probably didn’t even know you had.

A mountable floating shelf is easy to attach and includes invisible brackets. You can store and display decorative items. This decorative furniture piece completes a modern, yet still charming, look for your entire house.

Organize your kitchen utensils

Everyone seems to have more kitchen utensils than they know what to do with. You have so many forks, spoons, and knives. They seem to get lost together in a kitchen drawer. When you need the butter knife, it’s hard to find. Luckily, there’s a product to help organize the necessary utensils.

This silverware tray has six containers with dividers. You can store each utensil in their own designated container in the tray. The next time you need to quickly grab a spoon, you’ll know right where to locate one.

Organize your shower

Is your shower usually cluttered with soap bars, shampoo and conditioner containers, and additional products? If so, it could sometimes drive you crazy with the excessive clutter. Taking a shower isn’t supposed to be annoying.

This inexpensive wire hanging caddy fits around most shower heads. The wire racks allow for water drainage while storing your shampoo, conditioner, soap, and additional beauty creams. In addition, the caddy includes lower hooks that could hold a razor, washcloth, loofah, sponge, and more. It’s the perfect organizational product for every bathroom.

Always find your stuff

You probably own storage containers, but sometimes they aren’t as useful as they can be. You still have to open the drawers and dig around to look for the item you need. This isn’t an effective organization practice and it’s probably all because of the color of the drawer.

If the drawer is a dark color, you can’t see what’s inside the drawer. You’re forced to open the drawer to look inside. Instead, buy clear, white drawers that will solve this dilemma. You can see what’s inside the drawer. This will save time when you quickly need to find a hairbrush.

Eliminate clutter in your kitchen

Kitchen countertops are valuable space. You need plenty of countertop space to cook, but also to store items. It seems like you never have enough space, but that’s about to change with this simple DIY project. All you need is a curtain rod, hooks, and small wire baskets.

Attach a curtain rod on the wall above the countertop of your choice. Hang small wire baskets off the curtain rod with hooks, and you can now store small kitchen products, like salt and pepper shakers, in the baskets. This neat trick is also helpful for when you’re wiping down your countertops after cooking. You won’t have to constantly pick up items on the countertops. They’re already in their own designated place!

Organize bath time

You can also apply the kitchen countertops trick to the bathtub. If you’re a parent, you know children love to play in the bathtub. They have plenty of toys. But once bath time is over, the tub is cluttered with the toys. It’s an unpleasant sight and you might think there isn’t a solution to the mess.

Think again. Attach a shower rod at the bottom of the wall, positioning it close to the bathtub. Use small hooks to hang baskets off of the shower rod. Finally, store the bath toys in the baskets when your children aren’t playing. You can even teach your kids to put their toys in the baskets themselves. They’ll learn how to organize at a young age, and that’s a win-win situation for everyone.
