Marie Kondo inspired thousands of people to reorganize their homes with her Netflix special, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. In her 2012 novel, Spark Joy, the consultant instructed individuals to throw away personal belongings if they don’t “spark joy.” If something doesn’t make you feel happy, throw it away. You don’t need it cluttering your space and, well, your life.
But reorganizing a house is a difficult task. How do you add more storage to your kitchen? How do you organize your bathroom? Luckily, there are many ways, including small DIY projects under $25, to add more storage to your already existing living spaces.
Reorganize your pantry
If you’re lucky enough to have a pantry in your kitchen, you know the already existing storage cabinets allow for you to keep as many products as you want. But sometimes, your pantry still needs a little TLC (tender, loving care). If you need some more space, use your doors.
Put the pantry doors to good use. You could hang a shoe organizer over the back of the door. From there, you can easily store containers, condiment bottles, and additional food products. To add more extra space in your pantry, you can also put lazy Susans in the corners. You won’t let food get lost in those dark corners.
Organize your undergarments
If you’re like the rest of us, you usually toss your clean underwear in a random drawer in your closet. Your underwear isn’t tidy and organized. It looks like a mess. Luckily, there’s an inexpensive way to organize your undergarments.

Attach a curtain rod on the wall above the countertop of your choice. Hang small wire baskets off the curtain rod with hooks, and you can now store small kitchen products, like salt and pepper shakers, in the baskets. This neat trick is also helpful for when you’re wiping down your countertops after cooking. You won’t have to constantly pick up items on the countertops. They’re already in their own designated place!
Organize bath time
You can also apply the kitchen countertops trick to the bathtub. If you’re a parent, you know children love to play in the bathtub. They have plenty of toys. But once bath time is over, the tub is cluttered with the toys. It’s an unpleasant sight and you might think there isn’t a solution to the mess.
Think again. Attach a shower rod at the bottom of the wall, positioning it close to the bathtub. Use small hooks to hang baskets off of the shower rod. Finally, store the bath toys in the baskets when your children aren’t playing. You can even teach your kids to put their toys in the baskets themselves. They’ll learn how to organize at a young age, and that’s a win-win situation for everyone.
